Subject: Steppers Online - Closed Loop
Just found a low cost stepper motor with an encoder:

https://www.omc-stepperonline.com/closed-loop/nema-34-closed-loop-stepper-motor-45nm637ozin-encoder-1000cpr-34hs31-5504d-e1000.html

I have been thinking about getting it and running it off of the KStep, with encoder feedback directly into the KFlop. Anyone have any experience with these? It doesnt tell if it is an optical encoder or not so I am nervous about buying it if has a noisy non-optical type.

Looks like Leadshine sells a closed loop driver that comes paired with it on Ebay auctions.

Any idea if it would be better to close the loop with the KFlop vs an external driver? I like the step response screen for tuning. Do you think that I could squeeze more performance out of getting the combo pair?

Thanks!

Scott

Sounds like nobody has used these yet. I did find the spec for the encoder. Do you think that 55mA at 5V would be too much for JP4 or JP6 to handle? My US digital encoders are plugged directly into those.

Encoder Specification

  • Driving Voltage : 5V
  • Output current : 55mA
  • Resolution : 1000ppr
  • Output Signal : 2 Channels
  • Bore Diameter : Φ8mm
  • Output Frequency : ≤1MHz
  • Running Speed : ≤5000rpm
  • IP Protection : IP20

Hi Scott,

55ma should not be a problem drawing from JP4 or JP5.

I don't see the pinout for the encoder to determine if they are single ended or differential. Or a spec on how much current they can source.
